I decided to go with CakeKnife Photography¬†because I have known the photographer and her work for sometime. I am a massive fan of her work, and she has a wonderful eye, she also happens to be an¬†extremely¬†amazing human being. She is so¬†much fun to have around, and sort of has the gravitational pull about her. She can really¬†command chaos. Looking back I wish I could have recommended CakeKnife for more weddings, she really is a master of the craft, and if you have the chance to book her for your wedding do it, you¬†definitely won’t regret it. I still have people¬†texting me about how lovely and talented she is from my wedding guests.¬†

                                         РMicheline Norman

Micheline and Chip’s wedding was held deep within the magical forest of Lake Kissimmee state park at the historic Cow Camp built in 1876. I had been following Micheline and Chip’s relationship bloom on Facebook and was hoping that if they ever got married I’d be the one to photograph it. I just knew that whatever they were planning it was going to be unique and that wish came true!

Micheline is a LA fashion designer and we had worked together on photoshoots a few times during my days in LA. She was also one of the most beautiful women I had ever met. It was great reuniting with her under such beautiful circumstances in such a surreal setting. Was cool to see so many guests fly in from the swanky cities of LA and New York, many of them in the entertainment industry, dressed all in black and mingling in the middle of the woods. A funny juxtaposition and so perfect for this creative couple.

The Lake Kissimmee region is in Southern Florida and is filled with the nicest locals sporting thick accents, a love for Jesus and a knack for cooking killer Catfish. Chip was from there and Micheline wanted the visual beauty of Florida‚Äôs forest vegetation, as she put it ‚ÄúI have a total tree fetish!‚ÄĚ I do too which is one of the reasons why I love booking Southern weddings (this was my 3rd). The trees are massive with gray wisps of Spanish moss swaying from the twisted limbs. Mix that in with the heat plus the soft Florida sunlight the photography produces a very different look then in Colorado.

The portraits were incredibly important to Micheline and Chip who gave me a full two hours for them after the ceremony, a rarity in my wedding world. They also brought smoke bombs for the occasion which was a first for me. We set out to shoot throughout the park, but there were some challenges using the smoke bombs and at one point Micheline’s friend burned a hole through her dress when she pulled the trigger on the bomb. Like a total champ she waived it off and we continued on. The things we do for amazing photos!

I always love seeing the little DIY touches my couples do for their weddings. In the hustle and bustle of¬†packing for her wedding Micheline left her 1930’s cake topper behind, so she spent an entire frantic day going to about 6 antique malls and vintage¬†stores until she found sort of what she needed. She took two old vintage cake toppers apart with a little hack saw, some hot glue and paint and made the topper you see on her cake. She also made her dress which is no surprise being a fashion designer. Her maid of honor, officiant, along with her close¬†friend, hairstylist with mother in tow sewed the trim on the night before. Her dress felt even more special¬†because of all the amazing women who touched it and put a little of themselves in it. ¬†

I asked Micheline if she had any advice to future brides …

‚ÄúIt¬†always goes over budget. Don’t spend more than you can, otherwise you will regret it. The day goes by in a¬†literal blur so when you see the photos it helps make it all¬†worth it. The photos are¬†definitely top of¬†priority for me when I look back! Oh and things to avoid,¬†catching your wedding guests on fire. Use smoke bombs at your own risk.‚ÄĚ
