“Marla, owner of CakeKnife Photography is wonderful!¬† She is professional, fun, vibrant, witty, and the list goes on. Not to mention her artistic approach and lighting-amazing!!!! I first met Marla at the Rocky Mountain Bridal expo in Denver shortly after we got engaged and out of the hundreds of vendors I had a great feeling about Marla and¬†CakeKnife¬†Photography and of course decided to book with her and it was such a great decision:) ¬†She and her assistants do not miss a beat or a detail.¬† All of our out of town family and friends the day after our wedding said “WOW your photographer Marla and her crew were incredible and there is NO way they missed anything”; we totally agree!¬† She also did a beautiful engagement shoot with us and our 2 German Shepherd’s which will forever be cherished. We will continue to work with Marla for all future photography needs NO question!”

– Ashley and Kevin

Fairytale like with a vintage twist Ashley and Kevin wed at one of the coolest venues in Colorado, the Dunafon Castle. A private residence nestled in the forest, it entertains a couple dozen weddings each year. Most couples find this hidden gem through referrals and a few have said them came across it when hiking in the area!

To add some more charm to this already incredible place Ashley rented furniture from the Patina Preffered who specialize in antique pieces. Patina provided the sweetheart table with gold dishes, memory table and a variety of decor. From a photographers standpoint details like this make for extra gorgeous photos so I love it when my couples focus on the particulars. From the furniture to her style Ashley had a birdcage veil made specifically for her by Amanda’s bridal. They took an older veil and sewed it to a headpiece, all five days before the wedding. Off white caged center pieces with flowers and flameless candles was another fun DIY. They were used for both the ceremony and reception which helped save money.

Overall the wedding was breathtaking and so much fun to photograph. The weather was perfect and everything went off without a hitch, except the limo driver who got lost, almost crashed, making the wedding party a bit late for photos. However, when photographing weddings things like this can happen so I do take it into account when we discuss the scheduling of events.

When I asked Ashey if she had an advice for brides to be she answered “do your research when planning and booking with vendors.¬† I would have to say for us the most important aspects would be the venue, time of and the photographer.

The day goes by in such a flash so it’s really important to invest in a great photographer so you can see all the beautiful images that you may not have even realized were taken the day of your wedding, not to mention looking back years later.

Wise words Ashley!
