Marla has been amazing to work with and is a true artist!  From Marla’s professionalism, passion, punctuality, lighting, shoots, and sets you can’t go wrong with CakeKnife Photography! I can’t imagine our engagement photos turning out more beautifully.  One of our pictures, that is now actually my facebook profile pic, looks like a cover of a love novel, that’s what everyone is saying:) She was even able to get some great shots of our 2 Shepherds which mean the world to us.  Thank You Marla!

I had a blast photographing Ashley and Kevin on top of LookOut Mountain in Golden Colorado. I knew the setting would be perfect for their personalities. When sunset happened you would of thought I was shooting the cover for some romance novel! Beautiful and fit, it’s no surprise these two met at Gold’s Gym in Illinois. A few months later Ashley was moving to Colorado to be with Kevin.

Ashley asked me if they could include their two German Shepherds in the shoot. I’ve photographed a lot of animals before for advertising campaigns so I was more then happy to. I know how important pets are to someone, so whenever I can I try to include them in any shoot.

We also brought out our photo lights, creating the dramatic look you see below with the sun setting behind them, yet Ashley and Kevin are beautifully lit from the front. It brings a cinematic look to the shoots, especially for these two who looked like movie stars just chilling on some “comfortable” jagged rocks.

I’ll be photographing their big day on September 17th at Dunafon’s Castle, a beautiful and unique venue built in 1941 and located in Golden. Ashley said they chose “Dunafon’s because of it’s history, beauty, and uniqueness.” The venue only holds 30 private events a year, a small percentage of those being weddings, which is exciting for me since not a lot of people have shot there.

I asked Ashley if she had any advice in preparing brides for their engagement shoot …

“Definitely choose a photographer that you feel comfortable with and you like to work with.  I think its really important to jive with your photographer leading up to your big day and I think that its really great to have an engagement session not only for the memories, but to get fully comfortable working with your photographer before your Big Day!  Marla made us feel right at home and working with her is so natural, fun, and her work speaks volumes!”
