When marla moved from LA to Colorado I continued to follow her journey with CakeKnife on Facebook. Every photo was more beautiful that the last. She actually made me feel something for the couples she photographed….even if they were strangers to me. Her ability to capture a moment in the most beautiful way makes her a true artist. I knew when I got married one day she was going to be my first choice. So happy she made the trip to Austin to be part of my special day. The photos take my breath away and I she has a talent like I have never seen before! Thank you Marla for capturing each moment in such a magical way. You will be hearing from us when we have a vow renewal! – Chrissy Schiff

When Chrissy messaged me on Facebook to photograph her Austin wedding I was super excited. I briefly met her in LA and we had become friends on Facebook. She had been following me on it for years and knew when she got married she wanted me to photograph it. The power of social media!

Chrissy is one of the funniest girls you’d ever meet and beautiful at that, one of those unicorns you encounter every once in awhile. She and her fiancĂ©e Jon fell in love right away and were engaged within 5 months.

They chose to wed at Dunvegan Keep, known in Austin as one of the more unique wedding venues. When I scouted the place out the day before I fell in love with it’s visual beauty, but also it’s backstory. The venue is in the backyard of a home situated in a residential neighborhood, you would never know it was there. For over 20 years the homeowner built a labyrinth of walkways, stone sculptures, mosaics and chandeliers strung about in his gigantic oak trees all by hand. He wanted to have a mystical garden behind his house, something small and intimidate where once you entered the gardens you would forgot where you were. To Chrissy

“it was a fairytale! I felt that me and Jon meeting were a fairytale so I knew it had to be mine”.

Their fairytale theme carried over to the small details such as the table centerpieces. They were a take on “Beauty and the Beast” by having a rose in the glass case. They wanted their fairytale theme to be subtle not cheesy and they definitely succeeded.

Advice for future brides Chrissy?

“I would say make sure you hire a wedding planner or wedding coordinator. There are so many things that need to be done, don’t try to do it all on your own. It will be money well spent. Don’t invite anyone out of obligation. Don’t worry if anything doesn’t turn out exactly as planned. The day will go by fast soak it in and savor every minute…this is your day!”
